Cello, Electric Guitars, Synth, Vocals and an array of Percussive Prettiness

posted Oct 7, 2013, 9:53 PM by Matthew Inkala   [ updated Oct 26, 2018, 9:31 AM ]

We rocked our weekend away in the recording studio once again at the end of September 2013 - adding the refined stylings of Patience Stellmach on her new cello to "Enthusianthem", "Vena Amoris" and "The Truth & A Prayer". Drew Stevenson wowed us with his electric guitar solo work for "It's Time To Decide" and sang his heart out on backing vocals for "Take Me Under". Eric Malagon stepped up to his pedals and skillfully tore through a handful of songs on vintage amps. Nick Blake added pure synthesized sweetness to "Hats Off To Nobody" and "To Leave The Road" as well as tambourine to a number of songs. We all added in some enthusiastic hand claps and Mr. Inkala worked on refining vocal takes and guitar overdubs. Our album is sounding pretty sweet... more work planned in the spring. We're taking our time with this one and we're confident you'll like the results!

Trumpet! Cello! & Nick Blake joins us on the album!! :)

On July 14th we spent the day in the recording studio once again, recording trumpet for 4 songs and cello for 2.  Nick Blake joined us, adding some sweet floor tom rhythms to "Tambourine Dancers" and he also added, in 1 Take I might add, tambourine to "Take Me Under"! :)  After which I recorded vocals for "Take Me Under" - the instrumentation for this track is definitely rockin', making my vocal take a blast and an absolute breeze!

A song for my son, Cello & Keys additions :)

On Sunday June 23rd we were back at the recording studio.  Along with Jeff, Drew & Matt, this time Patience Carol Stellmach joined us on cello and Dan Popp on keys as we recorded another version of "Hats Off To Nobody" which will be the final album version :)  Patience recorded cello for "To Leave The Road" and Jeff added in some chimes while Patience and Dan also added the prettiest of outro's for "La Chanson de La".

We recorded a new song which I wrote for my son as a 3-piece, guitar bass & drums, and I also added both a whistling and my first ever popping solo! : )

I've posted pictures of our session on Flickr for your viewing pleasure - Click Here

Patience Carol Stellmach on Cello & Nick Blake our Soundscape Artist!!

We've happily welcomed 2 more talented members into our band...Patience Carol on Cello & Nick Blake, our Soundscape Artist.

Patience adds her rich orchestral ambiance to our songs, turning heads and soothing the listener into blissful submission, while  Nick, experimenting with a wide variety of instruments- synth, samplers, drum machines, field recordings, extra percussion including everything from tambourine to chains, adds a little something extra to the mix.

4 more songs Recorded!!!! :)

We rocked "A Full Dive In" & "Water or Wine" on Saturday!! We got our final take of each one on our 3rd try :)  Early to bed, then we were back at the studio Sunday morning...
"Vena Amoris" & "It's Time To Decide"? Knocked em out!!  That makes 14 fancy new rough mixes for our next release... It still needs more Trumpet, Cello, Chains, Backing Vocals, Bodhran, Washboard, Guitar Overdubs, Xylophone, Chimes, Field Recordings, A Choir...Full Orchestra...Coming in 2015! ;)

Two day recording session...

One month until our two day weekend recording session...
We'll be tackling "A Full Dive In", "Water or Wine", "Vena Amoris", "It's Time To Decide" and "Floatin' On The River"!  That'll make 15 tracks recorded and then it's on to adding Cello, Trumpet, Chains, Bodhran and various other percussive elements...building albums is so much fun!! :)

Check out Dan hard at work at our last band practice.  He got a shiny new set of Glitter-Phones which he claims helps him to be a better songwriter!
